Benefits & responsibilities of membership

Benefits:

  • Network and share best practice with other organisations delivering continuous professional development (CPD) to artists and creative professionals in London.
  • Contribute to the development of an accessible service that delivers tailored CPD information and provision to arts practitioners and creative professionals across London.
  • Have a say in the national debate on continuous professional development for artists and creative professionals, and represent the interests of your organisation and its beneficiaries, through CreativeCapital and CreativePeople.
  • Reach new audiences for your organisation, projects and services through the CreativeCapital and CreativePeople websites and egroups.

Responsibilities:

Although there is no formal agreement covering members' responsibilities, we do expect member organisations to actively engage with the network, by:

  • attending meetings and the annual general meeting (AGM)
  • sharing information and good practice
  • informing the CreativeCapital Project Manager of any staff changes or amendments necessary to information on the CreativeCapital website
  • responding promptly to requests for information and opinion
  • promoting CreativeCapital via websites, email newsletters and distribution of printed publicity materials, as appropriate.

CreativeCapital Board membership (i.e. being a Director) requires an extra commitment of approximately four regular meetings a year, plus additional responsibilities. Board membership is voluntary and Directors are voted on at the AGM.

In addition, there is the opportunity to engage with the national CreativePeople partnership by attending partnership meetings, or contributing to its working groups.

How to join the network

The process for introducing and agreeing new member organisations is as follows:

  • Initial conversation between CreativeCapital project manager and potential new member organisation. The organisation will be given a clear indication at this stage about whether or not membership is appropriate.
  • Membership information pack sent to the organisation.
  • Organisation submits a membership proposal for consideration by CreativeCapital, outlining how they fulfil the membership criteria. This proposal will include all the information necessary to add the organisation's details to the CreativeCapital website.
  • Membership proposal is considered by the CreativeCapital Board, following which the organisation will be contacted. The Board will either;
    • agree the membership in principle
    • write to the organisation stating why membership is not appropriate.
  • To submit a proposal for membership, please contact the CreativeCapital project managers (details below) requesting an application form, including any relevant supporting information.
  • Your proposal should be emailed to the CreativeCapital project manager, who will then circulate it to the Board for consideration. Decisions on membership normally take two weeks.
