Style guide

CreativeCapital reserves the right to reject listings that do not adhere to our style guide:

  • Check all text for typos, spelling mistakes and grammatical errors.
  • The title should be succinct and descriptive to identify immediately the type of opportunity.
  • Avoid using symbols in the title, e.g. & £ ! (they tend to get scrambled).
  • Avoid putting the date of the opportunity in the title.
  • Check the brief description does not exceed 50 words; it will be cut off if it does (automatic delimiter currently being installed for this).
  • Make sure full description includes basic information such as date, time, venue, cost, how to book.
  • Check website addresses are correct.
  • Use plain English: clear, concise and accessible language.
  • Do not use unnecessary capitals, asterisks, exclamation marks or excessive marketing claims.
  • Use single line spaces between paragraphs.
  • Make sure there are no hidden line breaks that split up sentences.
  • For bullets use short dashes followed by single space (not tab).
  • Avoid random use of UPPER CASE / Title Case; save it for acronyms and names.
  • Use consistent formatting for dates, times and numbers.
  • If acronyms are used, qualify them early on, e.g. ACE (Arts Council England).
  • Overtype any 'apostrophes', "speech marks" or dashes – as these often get scrambled
  • Write telephone codes/numbers as: 020 7222 3344 (not 0207 222 3344).
  • For general grammar, refer to the Guardian Style Guide: www.guardian.co.uk/styleguide
